Questions Families Ask

Start with the essentials here. Enrolled families receive the complete policies in our Family Handbook, and we’re always happy to talk through a question.

🏫 About Kingston

Where are you located?

Kingston Academy is at 6048 Etiwanda Avenue, Jurupa Valley, CA 91752. Call (951) 681-4182 if you need help finding us.

What ages do you serve?

We serve children from six weeks through twelve years, with Infant, Early Preschool, Preschool, TK/Kindergarten Readiness and Wraparound, School-Age, and seasonal programming.

What are your hours?

Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM–6:00 PM, except scheduled holidays or other closures. Check our calendars and Brightwheel for current notices.

Does Kingston operate a private Kindergarten?

No. Kingston offers school-readiness programming and, when available, before- and after-school care for children enrolled in public-school TK or Kindergarten.

🍎 Meals & Daily Routines

What does a typical day look like?

Our general routine includes breakfast around 8:30 AM, lunch around 11:30 AM, rest/nap approximately 12:30–2:30 PM, and afternoon snack around 2:45 PM. Learning, play, art, books, and movement happen throughout the day. Infants follow individualized routines.

Are meals provided?

Kingston participates in CACFP. Breakfast, lunch, and snack service depend on the child’s attendance and program. See our Menus page and complete the required meal-program forms with the office.

What if my child has an allergy or dietary need?

Tell the office before your child starts so we can discuss the need, required documentation, and the meal plan. Follow Kingston’s nut-free and classroom food-safety directions.

Does every child have to sleep?

Older preschool classrooms have a rest period, with a quiet supervised alternative under the classroom’s arrangements. Talk with the teacher about your child’s rest needs. Infants sleep according to their individual routines.

👶 Infants & Toddlers

Will my baby follow a group schedule?

No. Feeding, sleep, care, and awake experiences follow your baby’s individual needs and cues. We talk with families as those routines change.

How do infants learn here?

Through responsive relationships, movement, tummy time, floor exploration, songs, books, conversation, and safe sensory experiences suited to their development.

How often are diapers checked?

Children in diapers are checked at least every two hours and sooner when needed. Wet or soiled diapers are changed promptly, with care throughout the day to help children stay comfortable.

Does my two-year-old have to be potty trained?

No. Our Jungle classroom welcomes children from age two until they are potty trained. Potty training is part of our Early Preschool program. When a child shows readiness, teachers and families work together on routines and support. Children may still need diapers, pull-ups, or help. Accidents are handled calmly, without pressure or punishment.

How can we make the first days easier?

Tell us about your child’s routines, comforts, interests, and communication. We’ll discuss what to bring and how to make the transition feel familiar. Every child settles in differently.

🎨 Learning & Curriculum

How do you balance learning and play?

Teachers plan purposeful activities alongside play, exploration, routines, and children’s interests. Children learn through conversation, relationships, movement, and hands-on experiences as well as short group and teacher-led activities.

What is included in the preschool week?

Daily circle/group and creative experiences; literacy activities twice a week; weekly math and shape/concept experiences; and weekly journals where appropriate. STEM, science, books, music, movement, sensory play, and social skills are woven throughout the week.

What does school readiness mean at Kingston?

Letters, sounds, numbers, and writing readiness are part of it. So are communicating needs, managing belongings, following directions, joining a group, solving problems, and trying again with support.

How do you support different learning needs?

We get to know each child through observation, relationships, and family conversations. We discuss what helps them participate, including routines, communication styles, and sensory preferences, and talk honestly about the support available.

Do young children use tablets or computers?

Early Preschool does not use student tablets or laptops. A teacher may occasionally show a short group video, such as on a rainy day. School-age device use requires a family waiver and is limited to 30 minutes.

💛 Health & Safety

How do teachers help with challenging moments?

Teachers guide, model, redirect, and help children practice. We teach words for feelings, asking for help, waiting, entering play, and solving peer conflicts, with calm boundaries and support.

What should I do if my child is sick?

Let the office or classroom know and follow Kingston’s illness and return-to-care policy. The complete policy is in the Family Handbook. Call us if you’re unsure whether your child is ready to return.

Who can pick up my child?

Pickup adults must be at least 18 and on your child’s approved list. Please come inside for pickup and bring identification when requested. Tell the office about changes before pickup.

Can families view classroom cameras?

Camera access is for administration only. Families receive classroom information and communication through Brightwheel and the teaching team.

Where can I read the full policies?

Enrolled families receive the Family Handbook and enrollment information. English and Spanish handbook links are available in Family Resources. Please ask the office about any policy you’d like explained.

📱 Family Communication

How will I hear about my child’s day?

Kingston uses Brightwheel for messages, care and classroom updates, approved photos, reminders, attendance, forms, invoices, and payments. Teachers and families can also talk directly about questions or changes.

How should I contact you about something urgent?

Call (951) 681-4182. Brightwheel is helpful for routine messages, but staff may not see an app message immediately while caring for children.

Where are event updates and closure notices?

Check Announcements and the annual calendars for planning. Brightwheel and current written notices provide the latest changes and classroom details.

🚐 School-Age & Transportation

Which schools do you pick up from?

School routes depend on schedules, space, staffing, and approved arrangements. Contact the office with your child’s school, grade, and dismissal time so we can confirm current availability.

Is transportation available for two- and three-year-olds?

Kingston does not provide public-school pickup or drop-off for children ages two and three. Ask us about care arrangements if your child also attends another program.

What if my child won’t need pickup that day?

Tell Kingston directly as soon as you know. We need confirmation of pickup changes so staff can account for every child and plan the route.

Will homework be completed?

We provide homework support. Completion depends on the assignment, available time, and the child’s needs. Families should still check assignments and follow up with their child’s school.

Do you offer summer and school-break care?

Yes, seasonal care is offered for school-age children when available. Ask about your dates. Activities, fees, and any special experiences are confirmed for each session.

💳 Tuition, Subsidy & Attendance

Where can I find tuition and fees?

Our Tuition & Payments page includes the published rate schedule, fees, and payment details. The office will confirm the rate and schedule for your child before enrollment.

Do you accept childcare assistance?

Kingston works with approved subsidy programs, including RCOE and CalWORKs/Self-Sufficiency. Contact the office about your agency, authorization, approved hours, and any family balance.

Do subsidy families need to sign attendance forms?

Yes. Complete the attendance records required by your agency and make sure they are signed and dated. Brightwheel attendance does not replace agency-required signatures.

How do I report an absence or schedule change?

Notify the office through Brightwheel or by phone. Call directly about urgent transportation changes. Your enrollment agreement explains tuition and attendance requirements.

📝 Enrollment

How do I schedule a tour?

Use the tour request form, call, or email KingstonAcademyJV@gmail.com. Tours are offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday by arrangement; the office will confirm your time.

What should we talk about on a tour?

Your child’s routines, interests, needs, and personality; the classroom’s day; family communication; availability; tuition or subsidy; and anything that would help you feel comfortable.

How do we enroll?

After a tour and availability check, the office will guide you through required forms, records, payment or subsidy arrangements, and a planned start date.

How do you choose a classroom?

We consider age, development, individual needs, family input, licensing, staffing, and available space. We’ll talk with you about the classroom that best supports your child.
